(Karachi P.R. 22nd August, 2016) The Executive Committee and Specialized Committees meetings and Energy Consortium of ECO Chamber of Commerce & Industry held from 14 to 17 August, 2016 in Iran ended up with the strong resolution on improving regional socio-economic development to improve living standard of the people.
ECO-CCI’s First Energy/Petrochemical Consortium meeting was held at Tehran, Iran wherein various proposals and suggestions came under discussion along with the meetings specialized committees on industry and investment, trade facilitation, transportation facilitation, tourism, arbitration and business rating program. The meetings were attended by a large number of participants from ECO member national chambers including, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
Abdul Rauf Alam The President ECO Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ECO-CCI) Chaired the 21st Executive Committee meeting while the Head of the office of Iranian President Dr. Mohammad Nahavandian was the Chief Guest in the joint inaugural session and First Energy/Petrochemical meeting. In the other prominent delegates M. Rifat Hisarciklioglu, President TOBB, Turkey, Gholam Hussein Shafeiee, Vice President ICCIMA, Azarakhus Hafizi, Vice President ECO-CCI from Afghan CCI. The Secretary General of ECO Ambassador Halil Ibrahim Akca and Vice President of ECO Trade Development Bank (ETDB) Masoud Rakebdar also attended the meeting with deliberation.
ECO CCI prepared the Draft Concept Paper on ECO Vision 2025. ECO CCI Secretariat gave the presentation on the significance and importance of CPEC, Investment opportunities in Pakistan and also a detail presentation on the SMEs sector of ECO countries.
The President ECO-CCI Abdul Rauf Alam presented the activity report of ECO-CCI in 21st Executive Committee and emphasized on the need to strengthen the economic relations in the ECO region through isolation of the root causes of lower intra-regional trade and investment, harmonization in Trade and Investment regulations, removal of trade barriers and gradual integration of the member state’s economies, development of transport and communication, effective infrastructure linking in the region and outside the world. He also stressed on early implementation of TIR Convention which will boost the intra-regional trade.
