(Karachi P.R. 19th July, 2016) Sheikh Khalid Tawab, Senior Vice President of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has congratulated Turkey’s President RecepTayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister BinaliYildrim and Turkey’s people and armed forces on their successful defense of democracy against military coup on July 15, 2016.
The FPCCI SVP, hailing the swift reaction of Turkish President Erdogan, said that his appeal to the Turkish people to come out resist the coup was warmly and vastly responded, producing extra ordinary scenes of protesters facing-off against tanks and thereby inducing the surrender of rebels.
Sheikh Khalid Tawab advised that one must not lose sight of the fact that Erdogan, unlike most of the head of the Islamic countries, during his tenure as Prime Minister from 2003 till he was elected President in 2014 todate has had successfully led Turkey to unprecedented economic growth under a clear vision that is aimed at regaining the glories that the Turkish people lost with the demise of the Ottoman Empire during World War-I (1914 - 1918).
“The failed coup is one of the formidable hurdles that he has overcome towards achieving his objective of making Turkey one of the economically strongest countries in the world. The democracy under Erdogan has demonstrated its efficacy in pitching turkey’s rapid development as a model for Muslim countries. This is evident from the fact that when he took over the charge of the government affairs, due to poor economic condition one US dollar was equivalent to Lira 1.65 (000000) and now strengthened to about Lira 0.34 per US dollar. Similarly, the extreme poverty was 13% which now fell to 4.5% and moderate poverty reduced from 44% to 21% and average growth rate is at 7% from 2004 compare to 1.4% in 2003,” he added.
